A Macuahuitl ([maːˈkʷawit͡ɬ]) is a club type weapon with several embedded Noctilith. The name is derived from the Yuc'Anti language and means "hand-stone". Its sides are embedded with prismatic blades traditionally made from Noctilith. Noctilith is capable of producing an edge sharper than high quality power swords and axes. The Macuahuitl was a standard close combat weapon design for all Jade Vipers.
Like many examples of Human invention, the Macuahuitl's many variants seem to have their roots in the shrouded heresies of the Age of Technology. Accordingly, it saw consistent use in the armoured fists of techno-barbarians during the Age of Strife, and among the Emperor's own armies during His Thunder Warriors' brutal conquest of Terra.
The substance Noctilith is found only on certain mineral-rich planets across the galaxy, though a close correlation has been found between worlds settled by the original Mechanicum -- the forerunners of the Adeptus Mechanicus -- and the "Quarry Worlds" upon which the mineral is present.These facts are one reason the Jade Vipers have remain staunch guardians of the Yuc'Anti system; in order to protects is rare and secretive minerals.
